Another Loss…

In a game were offense was non-existent, defenses reigned supreme, the Florida Gators found a way to shoot themselves in the foot time and time again. Quarterback John Brantley’s first half mistakes killed any hope the Gators had of being close in game that had as many punts as it did first downs. After FSU lost to a UVA team that was throttled by Virginia Tech on Saturday, you would figure that the speed and talent the Gators possess on offense would do something for improving Florida’s chances. That was not the case at all, and the offense looked...

Narrow Victory

After the first quarter, this fan was ready to see Will Muschamps fired on the field. How on Earth can any fan accept giving up 22 points to Furman, a 6-4 team out of the Southern conference, at home, to a team that can recruit better, play better, and has so much more talent than a minnow in the college football landscape. Fortunately, the Gators were able to turn on the offense and quarterback John Brantley secured the 54-32 win, but the fact of situation is that the Florida football program is light years away from where they were...

Another loss…

The defense played better against South Carolina on Saturday, but the offense could not overcome USC’s talented defense as the Gators struggled to a 12-17 loss to the Gamecocks in Columbia. Quarterback John Brantley had a poor day through the air, only throwing for 119 yards on 21 attempts, but the running backs had a reasonable day with Rainey gaining 132 yards with a long of 47. That being said, questions must be asked of Coach Muschamps yet again and his inability to get a team full of talented athletes able and prepared to win a close game against...

Victory!

Coming into this game, both Florida and Vanderbilt had the same records and equally atrocious conference play over the month of October. Fortunately for the Gators, they found a way to win with a great 2nd quarter performance, but that was almost thrown away with abysmal defending in the 2nd half. Jeff Demps had to run for 158 yards in order for Florida to beat Vandy for the 21st time in a row, but the game was only over after a failed onside kick from Vanderbilt after they closed the gap to 26-21 in the final minutes. Offensively, the...

More Dissapointment

Will Muschamps should lose his job. This blogger is sick and tired of the losses that are piling up in Gainesville, and other fans should be too. This October, the Gators have not won a single game, and half of them have been winnable. Even with the offense being back at full strength, the defense simply could not get the job done. If the Gators had lost due to the lack of a kicker, that would have been acceptable, but the stand-kicker made multiple field goal attempts from a distant range. Additionally at some level you cannot even blame...

“It’s never as good as it seems, and it’s never as bad as it seems. It’s somewhere in between…the point to me in staying the course of where we are is not to get emotional about where we are, but be technical about where we are.” This is what Coach Muschamps had to say in a press conference earlier this week and it’s a bit concerning. While this writer does agree with the notion of the coach being in control and not getting too carried away, the fact of the matter is that the Florida Gators brand of football...

Trouble.

Coach Muschamps is in trouble, very deep trouble now. After tough losses to quite possibly the best teams in the nation, a very poor performance against an Auburn team has left the Gators reeling, and losers of 3 straight. Mistakes, missed opportunities, and boneheaded plays left the Gators on the losing end of a 17-6 game where they only created 194 yards of offense; which was actually worse than their totals accumulated against LSU and Alabama. The Gators failed to reach the end zone, and the 6 points cam from the leg of Caleb Sturgis; the only small bright...

Another Loss

Florida got run over by a train from the Bayou yesterday. Forgetting Florida’s problems at quarterback and the amount of turnovers yesterday, the fact of the matter is that LSU is for real this year, and may well be the best team in the country. That being said, after the Gators were hit in the nose coming out of the gate they committed stupid mistake after stupid mistake that put the game out of reach almost instantly. After LSU drove down the field and scored with a 46 yard touchdown on its second play of the game, the Gator’s...

Dissapointment

The Gators certainly got off to a fast start against Alabama today in Gainesville; but simply were not able to sustain that early momentum against a superior team. The Alabama defense truly showed today that it can run the ball on offense and stop the run on defense better than just about anyone in the SEC; and maybe anyone in the country. The way in which the Crimson Tide front line on each side of the ball simply manhandled the athletes and speed that Florida possesses was impressive; and somewhat concerning for Gators fans. That being said, this Alabama...

Special Teams; A Gators Specialty!

September 28, 2011
By

When one thinks of the scariest part of the Florida Gators’ football team, the special teams unit probably does not come up too high on many peoples’ lists. However, when one considers how many blocked punts and returns for big gains have happened already in the Will Muschamps era, the aspect of the game that is often most neglected by casual fans is really becoming a huge weapon in the Gators’ arsenal. This has become something of a tradition at the University of Florida, with the Gators leading the SEC last year in blocked kicks; and have a 42-4...
